On Thursday 23 October AP4D hosted a webinar to explore the role of philanthropy in the contemporary international development context.
The Seville Commitment from the recent United Nations Finance for Development conference speaks to a growing need for governments to recognise the important role of philanthropy and adopt a whole-of-nation approach to funding for development. While not a substitute for government and development bank funding, philanthropy can boost collective investment and grow pipelines of country-led, sustainable initiatives.
Following opening remarks from Director of OECD Development Centre Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, a panel of experts offered perspectives on how philanthropy can play a catalytic role in sustainable development.
The panel featured:
- Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, Director of OECD Development Centre
- Naina Subberwal Batra, CEO of AVPN
- Julie Rosenberg, Executive Director of the Australian International Development Network
- Anita Toy, Executive Director of Myriad Australia
- Taholo Kami, CEO and Principle Partner at Kami Pasifiki
- Anna Marsden, Managing Director of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation
