Last week, Nepal experienced deadly flooding on the Nepal-Tibet border, causing widespread devastation, sweeping away roads, houses and entire communities.

Many of our friends in the AIDN community are already on the ground supporting local partners by mobilising supplies and personnel to support affected areas.

ActionAid

In an emergency, ActionAid works with local partners and women-led organisations who are supporting affected communities. These partners have a specific focus to ensure the needs of women and girls, along with people with disability and the elderly, are met.

Together with ActionAid Nepal’s local partners, they are committed to ensuring that women and girls have the safety, dignity and support they need – not only to survive this emergency, but to help their communities recover and rebuild.

  • Provide hygiene kits for women and girls
  • Provide emergency shelter for families who have lost everything
  • Provide trauma support for women and girls who are at increased risk of violence

 

ACFID: Australian Council for International Development

ACFID members and their local partners are already responding to support affected communities with emergency shelter, food, clean water and sanitation, while also helping households begin the long process of recovery and rebuilding.

Across affected areas, EAA member charities and their local partners are working to reach those most in need. Despite challenging conditions and damaged transport links, teams are providing emergency shelter, clean water, food, medical assistance and other lifesaving support to affected communities.

Myriad Australia is partnering with Group for Technical Assistance and One Heart Worldwide, local organisations on the ground delivering emergency relief and supporting impacted communities.

Immediate priorities include search and rescue, emergency medical care, evacuation of at-risk populations, restoration of communications and access, and the delivery of life-saving relief, with longer-term support needed for shelter recovery, livelihoods, infrastructure rehabilitation and community resilience.

All donations received by Myriad Australia will help affected communities in Nepal.

One Heart Worldwide

In districts One Heart Worldwide have served for years, catastrophic floods have displaced thousands. They are responding alongside the Government of Nepal to reach affected families.

Somewhere in the Flood Zone, a baby us about to be born. A safe delivery can’t wait for the water to recede. For pregnant women, new mothers, or newborns in these affected districts, this catastrophe means losing their homes but also losing access to safe healthcare at the moment they need it most.

The OHW team is the ground is ready to deliver emergency supplies to displaced families, ensuring that health facilities can continue to provide safe maternal and newborn care and coordinating closely with the Government of Nepal and other organizations so that help reaches the families who need it most.

Oxfam Australia

Oxfam is working closely with the Government and local partners, to immediately supply emergency hygiene kits, water purification solutions, food items and emergency shelter across hundreds of households in the hardest-hit districts of Dhading, Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

With your support, they can provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene, cash assistance and essential items in the aftermath of disaster.

UNICEF

With more than 60 years of experience in Nepal, UNICEF was able to respond immediately with pre-positioned supplies and teams already on the ground, while planning for the long-term recovery children and families will need in the months ahead.

UNICEF’s response:

  • Nearly 19,000 people have been reached with clean water and hygiene supplies.
  • Three medical tents and 500 newborn kits delivered to affected communities.
  • 1,000+ people, including 237 children, supported with mental health services.
  • Temporary learning spaces being established for children affected by school closures.
  • 13,000 households to receive emergency cash assistance

UNICEF is on the ground, scaling up their emergency response, but need additional resources to reach the 17,000 children now in need of humanitarian assistance.

 

World Vision Australia

World Vision is responding to emergencies around the world, including earthquakes, cyclones, conflict and disease outbreaks. Flooding in northern Nepal has caused widespread loss of life and left hundreds of people missing, including more than 30 Australians.

World Vision teams in Nepal are mobilising emergency funds, food and shelter kits, working with local partners to reach the most vulnerable households first, with children’s protection at the centre of everything we do.
